Where? Based on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada in the spa town of Lanjaron, the gateway to the Alpujarra and only 25km south of Granada. Lanjaron is an ideal base for walking holidays in the Sierra Nevada yet is also only an hour from the Axarquiaand the coastal ranges of the Mediterranean, and the Sierra de Huetor with its limestone peaks and ridges..

When? Because of the regions year round sun (it can rain in winter) your walking holiday in Andalucia is possible at anytime of the year.Our flexible approach means that your walking holiday can start and finish on dates to suit your needs and requirements.

Who? We cater for all from individuals wanting a half day walk, groups and parties wanting week long walking holidays or families wanting an active holiday in the sun of southern Spain. We are also able to cater for larger groups and parties see discounts and offers

Other activities include :-

Low level walks through ''white villages'' of the Alpujarra and beyond.

High level walking with non technical ascents of 3,000m peaks including Mulhacen, at 3482m the highest point in mainland Spain.

Multi day treks Based in the Poqueira Mountain Refuge these trips give mountaineers and walkers the chance experience the high mountains at their best.

Scrambling and Gorge walks give you a chance to get hands on rock on the ridges and in the river valleys of the area.

Winter activities winter sun in the area allow year round walking including routes into the higher snow covered peaks.

The number of itineraries available to walkers gets bigger and bigger with new routes being added all the time. The Life of Riley now offers ascents of Maroma , 2,068m and Lopero 1495m in the Axarquia. New river walks in the Rio Cebollon and Rio Higueron and new scrambling routes in the Sierra de Huetor.

The area around the Sierra Nevada and the historic city of Granada offers more than just walking holidays. We can also arrange other activities to fill rest days or satisfy the needs of partners, children or other members of your group. 

For your stay you will be based in Lanjaron. In this lively small village famous for its spa and spring water we can offer a range of accommodation from self catering to 3*** hotels. 

Martin is a the first British member of the Asociacion Espanola Guias de Montana AEGM, the Spanish mountain guides association, membership of which is only open to suitably qualified and experienced guides.

Your Guide

Martin Riley who runs The Life of Riley is a qualified International Mountain Leader (IML) and the first British guide to become a member of the Spanish Mountain Guides Associacion. Martin holds public liability insurance with Axa Winterthur.

Martin has long experience of working and playing in the hills and mountains. Walking and climbing in the UK and Europe for over 30 years and having lived and worked in Lanjaron since 2005 he has an extensive knowledge of the region’s mountains and wildlife. Prior to living in Spain he managed a Countryside Ranger service and an activity centre in the north of England
