Walking Packages in the Sierras of Southern Spain

The holiday packages below are an example of the type of break we are able to offer. We can easily adapt start date, duration and range of activities to suit your personal needs, interests and budget.

 

Low Level Week

This is ideal for those who want to have a relaxed weeks walking through picturesque scenery.  The walks go through Andalucian white villages, pass through olive and almond groves and take you through some of the best of this historic landscape.

Suitable for reasonably fit walkers with experience in the UK hills.
Most walks are around 12-15km and last about eight hours

Day 1 Pick up from airport and transfer to Lanjaron.

Day 2, ‘’Ruta Medieval’’ of the Taha area of the Alpujarra. Just a short drive from Lanjaron this walk introduces you to some of the history of the area as we pass now ruined watermills, cross roman bridges and use some of the most spectacular mule tracks in the whole of the region.

Day 3, ‘’Rio Verde and the petrified waterfall’’ a spectacular walk through a limestone landscape of the upper Rio Verde passing via a unique ‘’petrified waterfall’’ and natural grotto.

Day 4, ‘’ White Villages of the Poqueira’’ the three white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira cling to the side of the Poqueira gorge and are well known for their history and charm. This walk takes us through the valley below crossing the Rio Poqueira on ancient pack horse bridges before returning through all three of the villages with a chance to relax in the unique atmosphere.

Day 5, ‘’Rio Chillar ’’ this is a walk with a difference. After a walk using a section of the ‘’Iman trail’’ an  ancient mule route through the mountains bordering  the Mediterranean coast we return down the Rio Chillar  passing through lush woodland and by dramatic rock scenery en route.

Day 6 ‘’Travenque’’ we finish the week on a high with an ascent of ‘’the Materhorn of the Sierra Nevada’’ this emblematic peak reaches a height of 2079m and is a spectacular pinnacle of rock with an exhilarating summit.

Day 7 Depart to airport

Cost per person 550E, based on two sharing a twin room include: - 7 nights B&B.

5 days guided walking and packed lunches, airport pick up from Malaga or Almeria.

 

 

High level Week.

This week aims to take in some of the higher routes and peaks of the Sierra Nevada area culminating in an ascent of Mulhacen. The week shown includes a night in the Poqueira Mountain refuge.

The high level week is suitable for fit walkers with experience in the UK mountains.

 

Day 1 Pick up from airport and transfer to Hotel Paris in Lanjaron.

Day 2 ‘’Travenque’’ we start the week on a high with an ascent of ‘’the Matterhorn of the Sierra Nevada’’ this emblematic peak reaches a height of 2079m and is a spectacular pinnacle of rock with an exhilarating summit.

Day 3 ‘’Cerro de Caballo’’ at 3011 m this is Europe’s most westerly 3,000m+ summit. Standing high above Lanjaron this is perhaps the easiest of all the high summits to ascend and is a great way to acclimatise for the rest of the week to come

Day 4 ‘’ Valetta’’ This walk takes us up the second highest peak in the range at 3396m. We ascend from above Granada’s ski village on what this in summer is a non technical walk with stunning views across the north faces of the big three peaks of the range, Valetta, Mulhacen and Alcazaba.

Day 5 ‘’Poqueira Refuge’’ , a short  day takes us in to this well appointed  mountain refuge which sits at 2,500m on the southern slopes of Mulhacen. We stay overnight enjoying an evening meal and bunk accommodation.

Day 6 ‘’Mulhacen’’ The true pinnacle of the week this last summit is, at 3482m the highest point in mainland Spain. Normally we follow the spectacular Rio Mulhacen valley before ascending the  steep west ridge as it soars above the north face of the mountain.

Day 7 Depart for airport.

Cost per person 700E, based on two sharing a twin room include: - 6 nights B&B, 1 night in the mountain refuge, 5 days guided walking with packed lunches, airport pick up from Malaga or Almeria.

 

 

Short breaks, three or four day walking breaks from 200E per person with accomodation in Lanjaron and walks in and around the area.
